As a local CFP® & CPA who also has the CDFA™ (Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™) designation I frequently see people whose financial position has suffered as result of decisions made during the divorce process.
The choice of assets to keep in a divorce has a significant impact on your future financial outcome. Although you will be advised by an attorney, they cannot provide you with professional financial planning advice. Unfortunately, many people do not seek financial advise until after the divorce is complete. At that point there typically is little we can do with after-the-fact planning to help you.
There can be significant benefits for you to have qualified third party financial planning input when determining key issues such as: which assets you should keep, how the assets could be split, how much alimony and child support may be appropriate, and whether or not you should keep the matrimonial home.
My unique qualifications in the tax, financial planning, investment management and real estate fields are listed in my CV.
